Academy By Position Fall 2017

Academy By Position Fall 2017

Own Your Position

What is “Academy by Position”?

This nine week “position specific” intensive clinic is a unique opportunity for players to develop high level skills and a better understanding of the position they play. Each session players are divided by position (perimeter, post, or point guard) to work on drills, skills and strategies related to their position. The goal is to allow players to separate from the competition at their position both physically and mentally.

How is the program different from other clinics?

This high level opportunity provides specialized instruction from outstanding clinician’s at each position. It will also teach players from one position how to work with and complement players at other positions. This opportunity is restricted to players in Grades 8-12.

Perimeter/Wing Players will focus on:

  • Creating your own shot – off the dribble and from triple threat position
  • Shooting – catch & shoot, off the dribble and coming off of screens
  • Setting and receiving screens on and off the ball
  • Reading defenders – on and off the ball
  • Learning to play effectively with post players and point guards

Post Players will focus on:

  • Post Moves – back to the basket and facing up
  • Proper positioning – offensively and defensively
  • Shooting
  • Setting and receiving screens on and off the ball (rolling and popping)
  • Rebounding on both ends of the court
  • Learning to play effectively with wings and point guards

  • Game management (communication, controlling tempo, court balance)
  • Ball handling and beating full-court pressure
  • Precision passing/creating open looks for teammates
